Actor Sustains Concussion but Expected to Return Soon, Marking First Hospitalization on Spider-Man Set
Tom Holland, the acclaimed actor known for his role as Spider-Man, has been hospitalized following a fall while filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland sustained a concussion during production and will take a brief precautionary break before returning to filming in the coming days.
The movie, the first in a new Spider-Man trilogy, began production last month in Glasgow. Holland shared his excitement for the project in a promotional video, noting, “It’s day one. My fourth ever day one on Spider-Man. It’s also the first time we’ve ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them.”
This marks the first time Holland has been hospitalized due to an on-set injury, despite his history of performing demanding stunts and acrobatics as Spider-Man. Reflecting on past experiences, Holland revealed that during his time in Billy Elliot: The Musical, he earned the nickname “Sick Note” due to frequent illnesses and minor injuries. “Now as an actor, I push through everything, because I’m not going to be Sick Note,” he said.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reunite Holland’s Peter Parker with MJ (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon). However, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), neither remembers who Parker is, setting the stage for an intriguing continuation of the story.
Holland’s temporary absence is expected to be brief, with the production team anticipating his return shortly. Fans and colleagues alike are sending well wishes for a speedy recovery.
