In her Disney+ docuseries The End of an Era, Swift reveals how her tour family faced its most emotional test — and how resilience, compassion, and love carried them through
Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour was celebrated worldwide for its spectacle, stamina, and cultural impact. But behind the glittering stages and sold-out stadiums, the tour family faced a deeply personal and devastating challenge that tested their strength in ways no rehearsal ever could.
In episode three of Swift’s Disney+ docuseries The End of an Era, the global superstar reveals that background vocalist Jeslyn Gorman was diagnosed with breast cancer during the tour — a moment Swift describes as the first major emotional blow the tightly knit group endured.
“When Jeslyn got sick, it was the first blow that the tour family experienced emotionally,” Swift recalls. “It was completely unfathomable to us. I’ll never forget when she told us — everyone was just in shambles. And it’s the not knowing.”
Fans had first noticed Gorman’s absence during the Mexico City shows in late August 2023, sparking concern but no official explanation. Six months later, during the Eras Tour’s 2024 stops in Sydney, Australia, she quietly returned to the stage. Now, the reason for her absence — and her extraordinary journey back — has been revealed.
Gorman, who has worked with Swift since the Reputation tour in 2018, shared that the diagnosis came in the middle of the tour’s relentless global schedule. When she broke the news to Swift, the response was immediate and deeply human.

“When I let Taylor know, she came storming in with hugs and crying and just saying, ‘I’m so sorry,’” Gorman recalled. “And her mom said, ‘You just take care of you, and we’ll be here when you’re ready.’”
In the early stages, Gorman attempted to balance treatment with touring, flying back to Los Angeles between shows for medical tests. “Obviously, it was devastating,” she said. “I had biopsies and got poked and prodded to learn what I had to do treatment-wise, and then hopped back on stage and pretended like nothing was happening.”
Ultimately, the toll became too great. Gorman stepped away from the tour for six months to undergo chemotherapy and surgery, a period marked by severe side effects and emotional strain. She spoke candidly about edema, skin complications, and losing approximately 75 percent of her hair — a visible reminder of how profoundly her body had changed.
“I felt and looked completely different,” she said, explaining how she watched her friends continue the tour through livestreams while she focused on survival and healing.
The docuseries captures the unwavering support Gorman received from her fellow bandmates, who sent messages of love and encouragement throughout her treatment. Swift made it clear that there was no pressure, no timeline — only an open door whenever Gorman felt ready.
What happened next stunned everyone.
Much to Swift’s surprise, Gorman returned to the Eras Tour almost immediately after completing treatment. “I cannot believe that she was back in a few months,” Swift said. “The will to come back and do the hardest show ever — none of us could believe it. I still can’t.”
Gorman’s return was more than a professional milestone; it became a symbol of resilience, courage, and the profound bond within Swift’s tour family. Her story adds a powerful layer of humanity to the Eras Tour legacy — a reminder that behind the historic numbers and global acclaim are real people carrying real battles.
In sharing this chapter, Swift not only honors her longtime collaborator but also shines a light on compassion, strength, and the extraordinary power of support when it matters most.
