Multitalented performer set for surgery as he takes time to heal, postpones plans for future performances
Donald Glover, performing under his musical alias Childish Gambino, has canceled the remainder of his 2024 tour dates due to health concerns. The announcement came after Glover postponed several shows in the United States earlier this year, citing physical health issues. Now, with surgery scheduled and time needed for recovery, the artist has decided to cancel all forthcoming tour dates, including those in North America, the UK, and Europe.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Glover expressed his disappointment over not being able to perform for fans but emphasized the importance of taking his health seriously. “After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he wrote, adding that after further evaluations, it became clear he couldn’t continue the tour as planned.
Glover’s new album, Bando Stone & the New World, which the tour was meant to support, had already seen 18 successful shows before the cancellations began. Despite the setbacks, Glover’s website still lists several shows for early 2025, suggesting that his fans may yet see him return to the stage once he’s fully recovered.
The artist also teased other projects in the works, including an IMAX film accompanying the album, which is expected to release in 2024. He will also reprise his role as Simba in Barry Jenkins’ highly anticipated Mufasa: The Lion King, set to hit theaters this December.
While fans are disappointed, Glover closed his announcement with gratitude: “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.”
