From Indie Film Leading Man to Advocate for Autism Education, John Wells Embodies Discipline and Versatility in Every Role
A life long artist, musician, and multi-award winning actor, John Wells began acting professionally in 2006 and has since been well celebrated for his dynamic versatility, intense and immersive acting methods, and powerful presence on screen.
Wells has delivered scene-stealing performances in a string of features from a broad range of genres. He earned applause as founding father Patrick Henry in FOX’s historical series, “Legends & Lies: The Patriots,” and was called a “tour de force” for his performance in the depression-era drama, “The Old Winter.” In 2015, Wells was honored with the Médaille d’Or for Outstanding Achievements in Film by a Kentuckian.
Today, John has cemented himself as a prominent and well-respected go-to indie film leading man, often playing dark, complex characters, such as his lead role in the sci-fi/action/brawler, “Arena Wars.” While he’s often thought of as the action hero of independent cinema, he’s more than proven himself to be, at his core, a classical dramatic actor capable of impressive range.
Well-respected as a strict student of the craft, his rare level of discipline and commitment transcends his career into everything he does. His body of work, physical training, philosophical writing, and application to life, parenting, as well as the challenges he’s overcome, are testimonies to his rigid self-discipline. John commits to nothing without putting in his whole heart and body, and once he does, he always sees it through.
Wells has stated, “I’m always endeavoring to challenge myself. I embrace any opportunity that takes me out of my comfort zone and explores and pushes limitations. That’s how we grow not just as artists, but as humans.”
Currently, John is working on the hotly anticipated Avant-garde, heavy metal, horror/action/comedy called “DEVOUR,” in which he plays an enigmatic, monster-hunting antihero. “Devour” is expected to drop around this Halloween from Digital Thunderdome Studios. Also in the pipeline is the upcoming production on the deep space sci-fi epic, “Alien Horde,” from the creative team that brought “Arena Wars.” Later this year, he will also begin shooting “The Wrestling Movie,” a family-friendly musical comedy which will once again unite John with long-time friend and frequent co-star, WWE Superstar and pro wrestling legend, Al Snow.
Next year will bring what is expected to be Wells’ most personal and challenging role with “Merry Christmas, Elijah,” a family drama from First Capital Films where John will play a father on a desperate soul-searching road trip with his autistic son, an intimate parallel with his own real-life journey as a parent of a special needs child.
In addition to acting, John is also a proud father, fitness enthusiast, acting coach, and an outspoken advocate for Autism education and acceptance. Through his various roles and personal endeavors, John Wells continues to inspire and challenge himself and those around him, proving that true growth and artistry come from embracing life’s most demanding challenges.
