From snowstorms in the desert to airport chaos, the Superman star reveals how a modern-day witch, a wand, and a wishing well saved her global press tour—and her sanity.

Rachel Brosnahan Hires a Witch to Break Her Travel Curse: “It’s a Miracle We Made It”

Lois Lane may be fearless on screen, but behind the scenes, Superman star Rachel Brosnahan was grappling with a kryptonite of her own: a decade-long travel curse. The Emmy-winning actress recently opened up on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about the bizarre string of misfortunes that had plagued her trips for years—and the unconventional way she finally broke the spell.

Appearing alongside Fallon, Brosnahan left the host stunned when she confessed, “It’s a miracle that we made it all over the world,” referring to the whirlwind Superman press tour that took her across Asia, Europe, and the U.S. “I have been suffering from a travel curse for the last 10 years,” she said.

The curse, as Brosnahan explained, made every travel experience “as stressful as humanly possible.” So stressful, in fact, that Peter Safran—co-head of DC Studios—refused to board a flight with her. “Nobody believes the curse until they travel with me,” she joked.

She recalled one particularly surreal experience from years ago: while filming in sunny New Mexico and preparing to fly to Cannes for a film premiere, an “apocalyptic snowstorm” hit out of nowhere. “A complete whiteout,” she described. “They probably shouldn’t have let me on the plane, but I got there by the skin of my teeth.”

And then there was last year’s Paris Olympics trip. Everyone else in her group made it to their destination. Rachel? “I got stuck at LAX for eight hours. Baggage lost, reservations lost,” she said.

Even her audition for Superman was nearly sabotaged by the curse. “I arrived by the skin of my teeth,” she admitted. “But honestly, the chaos that came with me must’ve felt so Lois Lane-coded or something. It worked out just fine.”

With Superman’s massive global press tour looming, Brosnahan decided to take matters into mystical hands. “I got desperate,” she said. “I asked if anyone knew an energy healer or a past-life reader.”

That’s when a modern-day witch entered the scene.

“She brought a wishing well and a wand,” Brosnahan recounted, adding that the witch even signed a non-disclosure agreement before conducting the session. “She seemed pretty skilled and ready to take it on. I’m happy to report that it worked.”

The unconventional remedy seems to have done the trick. Brosnahan and her co-stars—including David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho—successfully completed their press commitments around the globe.

Now in theaters, James Gunn’s Superman reimagines the Man of Steel as he balances his Kryptonian legacy with his human upbringing. And while he may be battling supervillains on screen, off screen it was Rachel Brosnahan’s travel hex that needed defeating.

And thanks to one determined witch, a wand, and perhaps a little Lois Lane-style resilience, she’s now flying high—curse-free.
