Lil Nas X’s Father and Attorney Speak Out After Rapper’s Arrest on Felony Charges

The Grammy-winning rapper pleads not guilty to four felony charges as his father and attorney highlight his mental well-being and call for compassion.

Family and legal team emphasize the artist’s mental well-being and urge compassion as he pleads not guilty to four felony counts following a dramatic incident in Los Angeles.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X, born Montero Hill, is receiving support from his father and legal team after being arrested last Thursday in Los Angeles on multiple felony charges. The “Old Town Road” star, 26, was released on bail Monday following his arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty to four felony counts — three for battery against a police officer and one for resisting an executive officer. His bail was set at $75,000.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the arrest stemmed from an incident in which Lil Nas X allegedly “charged at officers” before being transported to a hospital for treatment of a possible overdose. At the time, he was reportedly found walking the streets of Los Angeles wearing only underwear and cowboy boots.

Father: “He’s in great spirits”

Speaking to reporters Monday, the rapper’s father Robert Stafford reassured fans about his son’s condition. “He’s in good spirits. He’s all right,” Stafford said, adding that his son is “very remorseful for what happened” and “going to get the help that he needs.”

When pressed on whether drugs were involved, Stafford dismissed the speculation, saying “absolutely not.” He emphasized that his son is “doing great mentally” and described their first post-arrest conversation as emotional and healing: “It was awesome. We shed tears. We shared laughter. But he’s in great spirits. He’s gonna be great. Like I say, God is good.”

Attorney urges understanding

Lil Nas X’s attorney, Drew Findling, also addressed the media, highlighting the artist’s remarkable career and the challenges of navigating fame at a young age. “He’s never stepped in a courthouse before,” Findling noted, adding that the incident may involve “substance, medical, or emotional” factors, though nothing has been confirmed.

“Anybody that has kids, you hear about things like this all the time,” the lawyer said. “Don’t forget, he’s 26 years old. So it’s not unusual for something like this to happen, particularly when you have the pressure of being recognized internationally like him.”

Findling asked the public not to rush to judgment: “Don’t judge somebody by the worst moment in their life. Just know that we’re going to do our very best to address those issues.”

What comes next

As Lil Nas X awaits further court proceedings, his team is focused on his health and well-being. The rapper’s hospitalization and subsequent not guilty plea underscore the seriousness of the charges, but his father and lawyer stress resilience, support, and the need for compassion.

For fans and observers, the coming weeks will be pivotal as the artist’s legal journey unfolds — a reminder of the pressures of fame and the importance of mental health even for global superstars.
