Bi-lingual Pop Artist Opens Up About Temptation, Toxicity, and the Dark Energy Behind His Latest Release “Veneno”
Alexander James Rodriguez is stepping into darker, hypnotic territory with the release of his latest Spanish-language single “Veneno”, a pulsating Latin electronica dance track exploring temptation, obsession, and emotional addiction. Released across all streaming platforms via Fat Mouth Records, the single has also officially been submitted for Latin Grammy® consideration, marking another bold milestone in the young artist’s evolving global sound.
Driven by moody synth textures, infectious electronic production, and passionately charged lyricism, “Veneno”captures the intoxicating feeling of wanting something you know may destroy you and craving it anyway. Through vivid imagery and seductive metaphors, Alexander creates a world where desire feels dangerous, obsessive and impossible to escape.
We caught up with Alexander James Rodriguez to discuss the inspiration behind “Veneno,” the symbolism woven into the lyrics, and why this release represents a new creative chapter for him.

“Veneno” has such a hypnotic and dark energy to it. What inspired the song?
I wanted to explore the idea of temptation and volatile addiction. We all have experiences where we know something or someone may not be good for us, but there’s still this magnetic pull we can’t escape. “Veneno” is about that feeling, when desire overpowers logic and you keep going back for “one more taste,” even knowing the consequences.
The title translates to “Poison.” Why did you choose that metaphor?
Poison felt like the perfect metaphor because the song is about something seductive that slowly gets inside of you emotionally. In the lyrics, I talk about carrying that poison within me, and that represents how certain relationships or experiences can stay with you long after they’re over.
There are a lot of vivid lyrical images in the song, especially the line about biting the apple. Can you talk about that?
That line, “De tu manzana mordí,” is definitely symbolic. It references temptation and curiosity, almost like knowingly stepping into danger. I wanted the lyrics to feel cinematic and dramatic, almost like a fever dream unfolding on the dance floor.
Sonically, “Veneno” feels darker and more electronic than some of your previous releases. Was that intentional?
Absolutely. I wanted this track to live in a more underground, late-night world. We leaned heavily into electronic textures, hypnotic repetition, and darker synth production. I still wanted it to feel melodic and seductive but with a moodier edge that fits the story.
How would you describe the sound of “Veneno” in three words?
Addictive, hypnotic, and dangerous.
What was the recording process like for this track?
It was really experimental. We spent a lot of time layering vocals and building atmosphere. I wanted the repetition in the chorus to almost feel trance-like, like you’re spiraling deeper into the emotion of the song with every beat.
The song has already been submitted for Latin Grammy consideration. What does that mean to you personally?
It’s a huge honor. As an artist who loves creating music in both English and Spanish, being able to submit a song like “Veneno”for Latin Grammy consideration feels incredibly meaningful. It’s exciting to continue growing and pushing myself creatively within the Latin music space.
What do you hope listeners feel when they hear “Veneno”?
I hope they feel transported. I want people to put the song on and feel like they’re stepping into another world for three minutes, whether that’s dancing in a club, driving at night, or just getting lost in their emotions.
Your music often blends evocative storytelling with disco dance production. Why is that balance important to you?
I’ve always loved music that makes you move and makes you feel something deeper. For me, the best dance songs have emotion underneath them. Even if people are dancing, there’s still a story being told for them to grab onto.
What’s next for you after “Veneno”?
More music, definitely. I’m continuing to explore this darker, electronic side of my sound while still keeping strong pop melodies at the center. I feel like “Veneno” is opening the door to a really exciting new chapter creatively.
