Charli XCX Hints at Leaving Music to Pursue Acting Career

Grammy-winning pop star says she wants to “quit music” and focus more on film roles as her presence in the movie industry continues to grow

Pop sensation Charli XCX is giving fans a surprising glimpse into her future career ambitions—and it may involve stepping away from the music industry that made her famous.

During a recent appearance on Quenlin Blackwell’s Feeding Starving Celebrities podcast series on Feb. 22, the 33-year-old singer revealed that she is seriously considering shifting her focus toward acting.

When Blackwell asked if she wanted to pursue more acting opportunities, Charli responded enthusiastically:

“Yes, are you kidding? I want to quit music, babe, and act.”

Reflecting on a Successful Music Career

Charli’s comments come after a particularly successful period in her music career. Her 2024 album Brat received widespread acclaim and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album, further cementing her influence in modern pop and electronic music.

Despite the achievement, the singer suggested she feels she has already accomplished much in the music world.

Blackwell noted the scale of Charli’s accomplishments with Brat and her years of hard work in the industry. Charli responded candidly:

“What else is there to do?”

The remark hints that the artist may be ready for a new creative challenge after more than a decade in the spotlight.

Dreaming Up New Film Projects

During their conversation, the two friends also discussed dream film ideas. Charli revealed she has been imagining a unique horror concept inspired by the Final Destination franchise.

The idea, which she previously shared on TikTok, would feature a group of fashionable “it-girls” navigating a chaotic horror scenario.

Charli said her dream cast would include:

  • Rachel Sennott
  • Alex Consani
  • Gabbriette
  • Romy Mars
  • Quenlin Blackwell
  • Charli herself

“We’re all just running around being so hot, but being killed in the craziest ways,” she joked while describing the concept.

Building Momentum in Film

Charli has already begun establishing herself in the film world. She recently appeared as herself in The Moment, a mockumentary directed by Aidan Zamiri that explores her experience during the release of Brat.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22 in Park City, Utah, and features a notable cast that includes:

  • Rosanna Arquette
  • Jamie Demetriou
  • Kate Berlant
  • Alexander Skarsgård

The film also features a special cameo appearance from Kylie Jenner.

Speaking during the festival premiere, Charli joked about the portrayal of her character:

“I would like to think I’m not as much of a nightmare as Charli in the film, but my real managers are in the audience and they probably know the true answer to that.”

Upcoming Acting Roles

Charli’s acting ambitions are already translating into major projects. She is set to appear alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in Gregg Araki’s upcoming film I Want Your Sex.

She will also star in a horror film titled Faces of Death, signaling her growing involvement in the genre she seems eager to explore creatively.

Expanding Her Role Behind the Scenes

Beyond acting, Charli has also been contributing creatively behind the scenes in the film industry. She recently helmed the soundtrack for the upcoming film Wuthering Heights, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

The soundtrack includes the track Chains of Love, further demonstrating how Charli continues to blend her musical expertise with cinematic storytelling.

She is also currently working on music for the film Mother Mary, in which Anne Hathaway plays a pop star.

A New Creative Chapter

While Charli XCX has not confirmed whether she will permanently step away from music, her recent comments suggest she is increasingly drawn to the possibilities of acting and filmmaking.

With multiple film projects already underway and a growing presence in Hollywood, the pop star appears ready to explore a new creative chapter—one that could see her transitioning from chart-topping musician to a prominent figure on the big screen.
