Conservative Nonprofit Aims to Offer Faith, Family, and Freedom–Focused Alternative Amid Controversy Over 2026 Headliner
Turning Point USA, the conservative nonprofit founded by late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, has announced plans for an “All American Halftime Show” as a counterprogramming alternative to the 2026 Super Bowl halftime performance headlined by global superstar Bad Bunny.
The organization unveiled the initiative through flyers shared across its social media channels, highlighting that the event will celebrate “faith, family and freedom” when it airs on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, home of the San Francisco 49ers. A survey linked in the announcement invites followers to vote on preferred music genres for the show, including “Pop,” “Americana,” “Worship,” and “Anything in English,” with performers and event details to be revealed in the coming months.
Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican singer and rapper who debuted in 2016, was officially named the 2026 Super Bowl halftime headliner on September 28, 2025. The announcement sparked immediate backlash among conservative commentators and politicians, fueled in part by the artist’s previous comments regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as his humorous monologue about Americans having “four months to learn” Spanish during his Saturday Night Live appearance.
President Donald Trump, joining the chorus of critics, stated, “I don’t know why they’re doing it… It’s crazy… I think it’s absolutely ridiculous,” while House Speaker Mike Johnson remarked, “It sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience. There are so many eyes on the Super Bowl. A lot of young, impressionable children. And, in my view, you would have Lee Greenwood, or role models, doing that. Not somebody like this.”
Other voices in the right-wing sphere, including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and commentator Tomi Lahren, expressed concern over the choice, with Greene citing “demonic sexual performances” and Lahren mistakenly claiming Bad Bunny is “not an American artist.” Bad Bunny, born in Puerto Rico, is a U.S. citizen by birth.
The Trump administration has also responded to the ICE concerns, with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem pledging heightened monitoring at the event. “I think people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they’re law-abiding Americans who love this country,” she stated.
The announcement by Turning Point USA reflects an effort to provide a conservative-aligned entertainment option amid growing debates over cultural representation and audience suitability for one of the world’s most-watched sporting events. With the 2026 Super Bowl fast approaching, anticipation is building for both the NFL’s official halftime show and the planned “All American” alternative.
