Samara Weaving Overcomes “Horrendous” Injury Ahead of Ready or Not 2

Australian actress reveals she was unable to walk days before filming, calling her recovery “truly insane”

In a story that underscores resilience and determination, Samara Weaving has revealed that she was on the brink of being unable to film Ready or Not 2: Here I Come due to a severe back injury—only to recover just days before production began.

Speaking in a March 21 interview with the New York Post, the Australian actress described the experience as both “horrendous” and “truly insane,” detailing how the injury temporarily left her unable to walk.

A Sudden and Debilitating Injury

Weaving shared that she suffered a serious spinal condition just before filming, including a “dead disc” in her back along with three bulging discs—an injury that severely limited her mobility.

“I was really terribly injured before filming this and I couldn’t walk,” she explained during a joint interview with Kathryn Newton, who joins the sequel’s cast.

The condition left her unable to move, placing her participation in the highly anticipated sequel in serious doubt.

A Miraculous Turnaround

Despite the severity of the injury, Weaving experienced a rapid and unexpected recovery.

“Miraculously, I came to life,” she said. “I could walk and run like two days before shooting. It was truly insane.”

Her sudden improvement not only allowed production to proceed as planned but also brought relief to a team that had been anxiously monitoring her condition.

Newton recalled the tension on set, joking about the concern among producers as they awaited news of Weaving’s recovery.

Support Behind the Scenes

Throughout her recovery, Weaving credited her husband, Jimmy Warden, for providing constant care and support during what she described as an incredibly difficult period.

“He was helping me, just feeding me. He’d have to help me to the bathroom, put me in the shower. It was rough,” she said, adding that she was often heavily medicated due to the pain.

His support proved crucial in helping her navigate the physical and emotional challenges leading up to filming.

Returning to a Defining Role

Weaving’s return to the franchise holds particular significance. The original Ready or Not (2019), directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence Productions, marked a breakthrough moment in her career and established the creative team’s reputation within the horror genre.

With the sequel officially confirmed in 2024, her involvement was always central to the project, making her recovery all the more critical.

“Everyone was really nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do it,” she admitted.

Confronting Self-Doubt

Beyond the physical challenges, Weaving also opened up about the mental hurdles of returning to such a high-profile role. In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, she spoke candidly about battling imposter syndrome.

“I think it’s fighting the imposter syndrome of, ‘I’m never gonna work again, I’ll just do whatever,’” she said, acknowledging the internal pressures that often accompany success.

Over time, she learned that such thinking was neither productive nor sustainable, eventually embracing the opportunity to return to the franchise with confidence.

When the decision came, her answer was simple: a definitive “hell yes.”

A Testament to Resilience

Weaving’s experience highlights not only the physical demands of filmmaking but also the resilience required to overcome unexpected setbacks. From being unable to walk to stepping back onto set within days, her journey serves as a powerful reminder of determination under pressure.

As Ready or Not 2: Here I Come moves forward, her story adds another layer of depth to her performance—one shaped not just by acting, but by perseverance in the face of adversity.
