In the world of skincare, Marie Matteucci stands out as a beacon of innovation and dedication. With a lifelong passion for skincare, Marie’s journey from aesthetician to entrepreneur has been marked by determination and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her skincare line, MAYARI, named after a Filipina moon goddess, reflects her deep respect for beauty and her meticulous attention to detail.
When did you come up with the idea to create your own skincare line?
Many years ago. I have always had a huge interest in skincare and it was something that I had dreamed of even before I obtained my aesthetics license.
How did you come up with the name MAYARI?
MAYARI is a Filipina moon goddess. I was inspired by a woman that I had given a facial to back when I worked at a Medical Spa. She was in Las Vegas on holiday. Her skin was stunning and when I went to create the name for my line, I wanted to pay tribute to her in some way. I ended up researching Filipina goddesses and found MAYARI. I loved her story and what she stood for. So I kept it.
What do you find most challenging about being an entrepreneur?
To be an entrepreneur, you have to have the hustle. It’s the only way. You have to have the desire to create and design your path and the willingness to do most if not all of the hard work yourself. It can be exhausting but I would so much rather work for myself than for someone else.
Have you experienced any setbacks and if so, what did you learn from them?
I think you have to be really careful about who you choose to surround yourself with. It’s important to create a friend empire, likeminded people who want to see you succeed, as they are working on trying to achieve success for themselves. High tides raise the water. Surround yourself with people who have the same vision and who want to rise up together. And when you notice red flags, have the strength to walk away from situations that could potentially bring you down or get you off track.
Which of your products is your best seller?
I can’t keep my serum “QUENCH” on the shelf. Ever. And because of this, my clients typically purchase two at a time. QUENCH works, plain and simple. It does exactly what it is supposed to do which is hydrate your skin and it contains no fragrance and no oil. All of my products are non-comedogenic.
Why is developing a non-comedogenic Skincare line so important to you?
The most common skin type is combination skin, which typically presents as clogged pores on your nose, cheeks and forehead (sometimes on your chin) and then dry everywhere else. I have found that the use of oil can exacerbate this condition, therefore I recommend my clients pay close attention to the ingredients. My skin type is normal to dry but because I have seen what oil can do, I don’t want it on my face either, even though I’m not prone to clogged pores and breakout. A non-comedogenic product won’t have any negative side effect on any other skin type, so that was my first priority when creating MAYARI. I want these products to do exactly what they are supposed to do and I want them to be safe to use by all skin types.
You are currently working on launching new products, what can we expect?
I am working with a scientist to develop a new cleanser, eye cream and moisturizer. I am also looking to develop a couple of masks. In less than two weeks I will be choosing new bottles for my products. I am very excited to unveil the new line to everyone.
Marie Matteucci’s journey with MAYARI is far from over. With new products on the horizon and a steadfast commitment to non-comedogenic formulations, she continues to set the standard in skincare. Her story is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance, inspiring others to follow their dreams and create beauty in the world around them.
